State of the Nation: The Church Must Arise Now… PFN

The National President of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria(PFN), Dr. Felix Omobude has charged the church and Christians to wake up from their slumber and take their place in the political leadership of Nigeria. The highly respected Christian leader, made this call at closing ceremony of The Spirit of Lagos Conference organized by The Apostolic Round Table (ART-2020) inconjuction with CAN and PFN, which was held at Living Rock Gospel Church in Abule Egba, Lagos.

In his remark, Dr. Omobude lamented the glorification of tribal and ethnic politics in Nigeria, he said ” tribal politics is killing Nigeria”. In his advice to Christian leaders, the General Overseer of New Convenant Christian Church, based in Benin said, that “integrity alone is not enough”. He hammered on the need for a leader to be knowledgeable and skillful. Citing Chief Obafemi Awolowo as a leader who had knowledge and skill in administration, he said while possessing integrity which should be the nature of a Christian, a ‘leader must be skillful in all areas’ in order not to be mislead.
Setting the tune of the well attended event, the Lagos State Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Prof. Alexander Bamgbola in his address reminded the church leaders that ‘church is a Nation within a Nation” where holiness, righteousness, God fearing should be the characteristics of citizen in the holy Nation of Christ.

The Lagos PFN Chairman, Bishop Sola Ore who ushered in the National President, Dr Omobude, admonished leaders to “be possessed by the spirit of love, sacrifice, compassion and humility”. He lambasted some pastors who have arrogated themselves to deputy gods by being bosses instead of humble leaders, as demonstrated by Lord Jesus Christ.
While insisting that politics is not a ‘dirty game’ as erroneously presented in most cases, the National Secretary of the political Leadership arm of PFN, Social Security Outreach and Intergovernmental Relations, Pastor Oriakhi Davies called for new political partnership roadmap and elimination of culture of political silence prevalent amongst Christian leaders.

The Institute of National Transformation, represented by Pastor Biodun aligned with the earlier speakers by enumerating the seven competences required for leadership transformation, which includes: Spiritual capacity, Multi cultural bridge building capacity, intellectual capacity, social as well as wealth creation capacity, etc.
On the National cohesion, a representative of Northern Christian Congress from Kaduna, Amb. Bagunje decried the dichotomy of southern and northern Christians which is detrimental to the body of Christ in particular and the country in general. He insisted that persecution over 47 million Christians in the north are facing are under reported with little or no concern from their southern brothers.
The convener of the conference Dr. Bolaji Akinyemi solicited the support of all Christians in the south to work with Christians allover the country, particularly the north for restructuring of Nigeria’s Constitution for equity and justice in the country.
The 2- day summit came to successful close with the call by National President of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Dr. Felix Omobude for the church to take a stand ” if anything must change in Nigeria come 2023, it has to start now” he said.
