OhanaEze: Ndigbo Set To Immortalize Fajuyi

The paramount socio cultural group of Igbos, OhanaEze has commenced the process of post-humous adoption and immortalization of former military Governor of Western Region, Col. Adekunle Fajuyi, who was killed in July 1966 coup d’ tat, alongside the first Nigerian military head of state of Igbo extraction, late Maj. Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi, in Ibadan.
The president of OhanaEze Ndigbo, Lagos State chapter, High Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, dropped this hint in chat with newsmen at the group’s office in Suru Lere, Lagos; while distributing the COVID-19 palliatives to Ndigbo and non Igbos alike.
He described the late army colonel as a “champion of unity, love and sacrifice, who deserve to be celebrated in Nigeria”. He lamented over what he called “high self- centredness” amongst Nigerian leaders today. Stressing that virtues exhibited by the defunct Western Nigerian governor of blessed memory, should be inculcated into the Nigerian civic lessons for our children, to build sacrificial bond of unity, love and loyalty to our country.

He maintained that his Igbo brothers who donated the palliatives to alleviate the suffering; ocassioned by the lockdown are delighted to see the contributions touching lives of Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnic inclinations.
High Chief Ogbonna said consultations at the highest level of the group and broader spectrum, are ongoing on the final outlook of the immortalization. The chairman of Igbo apex body in Lagos, declared that for Fajuyi to sacrifice his life for one of their own, Gen. Ironsi, he went beyond professional solidarity to blood brotherhood.

Therefore ” inline with Igbo culture of gratitude, it will not be too much to adopt him as an Igbo son” he stated.
The Igbo leader enjoined Igbo business men, especially traders in Lagos to maintain health and safety rules and obey government directives, while transacting their legitimate businesses amidst relaxed lockdown.

He further called, on the Central Bank of Nigeria to assist the small business owners and Igbo entrepreneurs in the informal sector to grow the economy in post COVID-19 recovery plan.
The OhanaEze leader, used the opportunity to commend Nigerian health workers and journalists at the frontline of combating this pandemic, as well as security agents.
