Edo Decides 2020: Group Hails Edo On Peace, Charges Them To Maintain The Conduct As They Await Election Results.
Nigeriaβs safety watchdog, Media Centre for Safety Reporting (MCSR), has called on Edo people to maintain the prevailing peaceful atmosphere while waiting for the result of their votes.
The President of the Centre, Mr. John Thompson stated this while addressing Journalists at the NUJ Press Centre in Benin city, Edo state today.
The President who arrived the Press Centre with a team of Election Observers acknowledged the peaceful conduct of Edo citizens, contrary to widespread reports of expected violence during the just concluded ballot.
In his words, βthe Peace Accords signed by the major political actors in Edo seem to be working. The General Abdulsalami Abubakar- led Peace Council, should be commended and they should intensify the pressure on the gladiators to increase the peace after the electionβ.
Mr Thompson who earlier called on INEC to ensure the safety of Journalists and observers accredited to monitor the election, also commended security agencies, for discharging their duty in more professional manner. βThe huge turnout of voters may be attributed to the rules of engagement deployed by the security agenciesβ he observed.
He however, lamented the culture of vote buying that is becoming ugly trend in election processes in Nigeria.
