EndSARS: 56 Suspects Allegedly Escape SARS Cell in Lagos…Police Denies; As Orile DPO, Others Escape Death Over Thugs Attack At Station.
NO fewer than 56 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and other heinous criminals who were undergoing investigation Wednesday night, allegedly escaped from the cell of scrapped Special Anti-robbery Squad SARS Ikeja Lagos. The cell break came on the heels of thugs numbering over one thousand under the guise of the #EndSARS protesters attempted invasion of the Orile Police Division. Discreet multiple Police sources told CrimeWorld magazine that the cell break at the SARS facility, Ikeja occurred shortly after the Commissioner of Police CP Hakeem Odumosu of Lagos State finished debriefing the ex SARS operatives and ordered them to vacate their offices in strict adherence to the IGP MA Adamu’s directive on the disbandment of the anti- robbery unit. It was gathered that after operatives of the Unit were ordered to vacate their offices, Mobile Police officers, MOPOL were deployed to the Unit to keep vigil on suspects in the Unit’s facility. It was told that even, the Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Yetunde Longe in charge of SCIID Panti Yaba had been moved to the Command Headquarters Ikeja to oversee compliance of the disbandment order. According to sources, trouble started after some inmates who were already aware of the goings on of the #EndSARS protests raised a false alarm in the cell, which attracted the attention of the Station Officer SO who at the time, thought the life of a suspect was in danger. It was hinted that the un-armed SO who was fresh from the mobile squadron and unaware of the antics of suspects in the cells, raced to open the cell to ascertain what was amiss only for the detainees to surge out towards him, pushed the Policeman to the ground and gave him the beating of his life. Reports say they later ran in diverse directions into the premises of the Command and escape by scaling the wall. Not even the sporadic shootings into the air by the Mobile personnel keeping vigil at the premises deterred the suspects who were predetermined to escape Justice. But the Lagos State Police Command through its image maker, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi has denied the cell break; describing it as mischievous and baseless rumour. SP Adejobi said “The attention of the Lagos State Command has been drawn to a rumour making waves on the social media that some suspects of the disbanded SARS escaped from the cell at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos State on Wednesday. The Command perceives such rumour unfounded, mischievous and baseless. It is an attempt to cause fear and panic in the minds of Lagosians, and distracting the command. In line with the directive of the IGP, SCIID, has taken over the disbanded SARS and other tactical units’ buildings in Ikeja and other satellite offices across the state, including the suspects. It’s pertinent to state that some of the suspects, who have been convicted, have undergone COVID-19 test which is a prerequisite to accepting them into correctional centres; but the command awaits their results before further actions. The suspects in all the cases handled by the disbanded SARS are intact.”
