NBC DG, Shehu Ilelah To Deliver Keynote Address At The Launch of Africa’s First Safety Radio and Television Stations

The Director General of National Broadcasting Commission, Alhaji Balarabe Shehu Ilelah is to deliver the Keynote address at the launch of the premier Safety Radio and Television in Africa.

The specialized Safety radio and television stations, which commences online broadcast in December 2021, shall be live on community radio frequency modulation and satellite television 24hours channel in second quarter 2022.

National Broadcasting Commission(NBC) DG Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, receiving Certificate of Commendation and Letter of Invitation from the President, Media Centre for Safety Reporting (MCSR) John Thompson, in Lagos, recently.

In statement made available to Journalists in Lagos after a meeting with the DG, the President of Media Centre for Safety Reporting (MCSR), John Thompson said “the Director General, Alhaji Balarabe Ilelah is pleased to deliver the Keynote address at the launching of the first Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Radio and Television in Africa.

The epoch making occasion slated for December 5, 2021 in Lagos, is an all-safety-quadruple event, which features: Miss Safety Africa Beauty Pageant, National Safety Awards 2021, SafetyRadio24 and Safety Africa Television launch, as well as Safety Data Base Centre unveiling”.

On the event with the theme: “Safety: Panacea for Peace, Economic Recovery and Nation-Building” the convener, who is also a Certified Safety Reporter said ” this is a journey we started over 5 years ago, it is a deliberate effort to institute a General Safety Database Centre of Reference, add beauty to the face of Health Safety and Environment with an annual pageant; a reward and honour platform, which made its debut last year-National Safety Awards 2020 and ultimately, the establishment of a media power house wholly dedicated to General Safety- (National Safety Times Magazine, Safety Radio 24 and Safety Africa Television”).

On target audience, Thompson said, “Our main objective of converging Safety professionals, Security Experts, Insurance and risk management and analysts, on the Board of Media Centre for Safety Reporting, is to reach out to everyone from well informed and professional perspectives on all issues concerning health, safety, security and environment.
We believe that the emergence of dedicated media outlets for effective communication, sensitisation and public awareness on safety issues in our society will reduce injuries, illnesses and unnecessary deaths as a result of non compliance to stipulated safety guidelines and procedures.
Therefore, proper understanding will enhance better application of procedural measures in our workplaces, factories, homes, farms, on the roads etc…thereby, maximizing productivity, increasing profits and ensuring the wellbeing of the workforce, in maintaining the delicate balance of a prosperous society”.

He further called on critical stakeholders, corporate organizations and individuals to advertise, support and contribute to communicating safety for safer economic growth.
