Abuja 2021 ISPON 40thAGM/PDC: Nnamdi Ilodiuba Bows Out with a Call for Media Collaboration..As Uzamere Steps In With PPP Agenda.

As the 40th Annual General Meeting and Professional Development Conference of the chartered HSE management body- Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, winds up in Abuja today, the immediate past President of Institute, Dr. Nnamdi Ilodiuba has called on the media to work with safety professionals to deepen safety culture in Nigeria.

In an inclusive interview with the Chief Editor of Media Centre for Safety Reporting (MCSR)- the Institute’s official Media Partner, John Thompson, the former president said “ISPON is consolidating on the visionary platform the founders of this institute had in mind when it was established over 40 years ago.
We are collaborating with organizations, institutions and government bodies, in accordance with the Gazetted Act of 2014 to foster proper understanding and assimilation of safety by all and sundry”.

He mentioned some higher institutions that have already started offering Professional certificates, Masters and doctorate degrees in HSE, which includes University of Portharcourt, Nnamdi Azikiwe University of Awka, University of Petroleum, Effurun and more, as part of his numerous achievements.

Dr. Ilodiuba, specifically commended the pivotal role Media Centre for Safety Reporting is playing in safety communication and urge the larger media as well as the general public to partner with the institute towards ensuring a productive, healthier and safer society.

On his part, the newly inducted president of the Institute, Mr. Evaristus Uzamere, in his inaugural speech, called for paradigm shift and all stakeholders’ collaboration, for professional advancement of the institute and socio-economic development of the country.

He declared that his administration will function on the tripod of PPP “professionalism, peace and productivity”.

Mr. Uzamere lamented the issue of quackery and non ISPON members, parading themselves as safety professionals, but promised to unveil measures to tackle the malaise.
He called on all members to see his emergence and the new Board of the institute, as an olive branch for peace and progress in the safety management industry in Nigeria.

Earlier in his opening remark yesterday, a senior airforce officer, Group Captain Effiong Bassey, an astute aircraft engineer and international safety expert, observed that ‘safety comes first before security’.
The Nigeria military aviation representative said, that the Nigerian Airforce is poised to synergize with civil organizations towards promoting safety in the country, inline with global best practice.

The event witnessed the investiture of fellowship of the institute on His Royal Majesty King Diette Spiff, the Amanyanbo of Twom Brass, Bayelsa and other distinguished Nigerians for their contributions in HSE development in Nigeria.
