WORLD CHARITY DAY 2023: PARTICIPANTS AT AFRICA INSTITUTE FOR CHARITY(AIC)MASTERCLASS SEEK GOVERNMENT SUPPORT IN NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT CAPACITY BUILDING

As part of activities to celebrate the United Nations International Day of Charity, the premier accredited institution for Nonprofit Organizations – Africa Institute for Charity(AIC), in collaboration with Office of the Governor on Vulnerable Groups and Poverty Alleviation organized a Free 2-Day Nonprofit Management Masterclass, which was hosted at the Conference Hall of Ministry of Budget and Planning at the Government House Complex in the state capital, Umuahia on 31st August and September 1, 2023.

The well attended lectures witnessed participants from as far as Edo state and other Nonprofit/NGO executives from various states East of the Niger, who testified that the trainings they received were far reaching and first of its kind.
While commending the Abia State Government, led by Gov. Alex Otti for partnering with Africa Institute for Charity(AIC) to organize the lectures, called on government at various levels to expand such collaborations by involving more Nonprofit Organizations and NGOs in various communities to learn more nonprofit governance principles for sustainable service delivery.

Another Nonprofit Executive from Enugu state, Mr. Lazarus Orjiude
called on Abia’s neighbouring state governments to “reach out to AIC for bigger partnership that will properly equip Nonprofit organizations in their various states to support their efforts in poverty alleviation.”

The Lead Facilitator and Co-founder of Africa Institute for Charity (AIC), Mr. John Thompson, in his remark stated that, the master class is inline with the vision of the Institute and it’s mission which include ‘to develop and certify leaders of public trust in philanthropic management and charitable services for maximum impact in our communities’.

The Internationally Certified Nonprofit Development Expert said, as premier Institute for Nonprofit Leadership Capacity Building in Africa, championing the celebration of United Nations International Day of Charity in commemoration of the charitable deeds of Mother Teresa every 5th of September, it has become necessary, to activate acts of charity and raise awareness for everyone to render philanthropic services in our society.

Earlier in her opening address, the Special Assistant to the Governor of Abia State on Vulnerable Groups and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Ifeoma Thomas, thanked the wife of the Governor, her exellency, Priscilla Alex Otti, for her support in hosting the 2023 AIC World Charity Day in Abia state.
She reiterated that the new Abia state government is determined to alleviate poverty in state by widely engaging all stakeholders especially, the third sector in achieving this goal.

She also charged participants to take advantage of the Free Training to scale up and network for higher impact.
Other resource persons include; Mr. Maduagwu Stephen, Monitoring & Evaluation, CSDA Abia State; Mr Okeziem Nwoko, Head Unit, State Conditional Cash Transfer; Mrs Nma Okam, Abia State Coordinator, State Operations Coordinating Unit (SOCU) and Mrs Oluchi Damain from Ministry of Budget & Planning, Abia state; As well as Barr. Chima Atulomah from AIC legal administration centre in Lagos.

The grand finale of the weeklong event is slated for World Charity Day, September 5, 2023.
