Ease of Doing Business: Construction of Access Roads To Ubani Market in Umuahia Top Priority… Abia Commissioner
Abia State Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Dr. Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu has declared that one of the major policies of Governor Otti-led administration is to ensure ease of doing by the construction of access roads to major markets and scale up business transactions through standardize markets.
He made this known in his office at the Secretariat Complex during an interaction with the media.
He stated that most of the markets are being remodeled under public-private partnership to meet up with the International standard under the new Abia.
The Honourable Commissioner further revealed that plans are ongoing to renovate the Ubani International market to International standards. He further stated that Dr Alex Otti has approved the construction of Umueze, Agbor to the Ubani market road.
He regretted the pains traders and customers have gone through over the years, but assured them that the market will be easily accessible once the construction of shorter access road is completed. He pointed out that the Uzoakoli road leading to the Ubani International Market is being constructed and soon the other roads leading to the market would be constructed.
Dr. Chimezie stressed that the essence of the road construction is to ensure that the market is revitalized and the traders can very freely have access to the market.
He noted that the issue of underutilization of Ubani International market is only temporary as plans to move unauthorized Isigate market have reached advanced stage, stating that some entrance roads from other parts of Umuahia leading to Isi gate would be diverted in a bid to decongest Isi gate and reduce the traffic gridlock in that part of the state capital.
The Honourable Commissioner reiterated that the essence is to decongest Isi gate and relocate the parks.
He opined that indiscriminate parks and bus stops always attract markets and made it clear that Isi gate parks would soon be sanitized and relocated to designated garages within the city metropolis and that Ohiya park on the expressway would be reopened to accommodate commercial vehicles for transportation.
He further stated that the traders at Isi gate would be relocated to the Ubani International market.
Dr. Chimezie debunked rumours that the traders of the Ubani International market were mandated to relocate to Isi gate, stating that the Ubani International market is the only International market in Umuahia and it must be revitalized. He stated that there are laid down and rolling plans to revitalize the Ubani market and there is no way that it will be neglected. Pointing out that everything cannot be achieved at once, he stated that there are no plans to close down the Ubani International market, which is why the roads are being made accessible.
